‘From 0 to 2’ is an autobiographical EP made with Di Maggio Baseball Team’s usual instruments (from Ableton to strings) and mostly with samples coming from the past 6 years, that is to say from the birth of my children. They are fragments of familiar intimacy placed into an instrumental backbone.


With care to the arrangement and beat, the tracks aim to document my personal human path which is certainly common to many - a further reason to release this music once for all and specifically before the end of this heavy 2020, as if it were a hope for the next year to come.


If there are some positive aspects to these surreal months, one is the deep quest in the old hard-disks to find marvelous and forgotten ideas; another one is the rebirth of creativity as one of the few backup anchors in negative circumstances: while in lockdown, I astonishingly re-discovered how liberating and mandatory is to invent. ’From 0 to 2’ also dwells on this idea.


Last but not least, the cover is made by Michael Rotondi, a true artist and friend of mine who has been working on his own punk version of the life of saints since last year. I took advantage of the case and commissioned two cherubs from him… guess who I had in mind?

The a last-minute touch of friendship came from Niccolò Mazzantini who mastered the tracks at Orfan records’ studio

‘From 0 to 2’ è un EP autobiografico realizzato con gli strumenti che uso solitamente come Di Maggio Baseball Team (da Ableton alle corde) e soprattutto i campionamenti realizzati negli ultimi sei anni, ovvero dalla nascita e crescita dei miei figli. Sono frammenti sonori di intimità familiare nell’ossatura strumentale.


Seppur arrangiate e ritmate, le tracce vogliono documentare il mio percorso umano che sicuramente è comune a molti - motivo in più per essere fissato una volta per tutte. Ritengo sia inoltre doveroso pubblicarlo prima del termine di questo durissimo 2020, così che rimanga come testimonianza e contemporaneamente possa riempire di speranza il prossimo anno.


Se ci sono aspetti positivi di questi mesi surreali, uno deriva dal tempo dedicato a scandagliare in vecchi Hard-disk trovando idee tanto meravigliose quanto dimenticate; l’altro è la riscoperta della creatività come una delle poche ancore di salvezza davanti alle circostanze negative: durante il lockdown mi sono nuovamente accorto con stupore di quanto sia necessario inventare per liberarsi. Alla base di ‘From 0 to 2’ c’è anche questo.


Elemento non trascurabile è la copertina che sottende un legame biografico, quello con l’artista e amico Michael Rotondi: visto che negli ultimi mesi è stato impegnato in una sua personale rivisitazione dell’agiografia italiana, gli ho chiesto di realizzare per me due cherubini… visto il soggetto, secondo voi chi avevo in mente?
